This personal site is a work in progress, evolving as appropriate. Over the past few weeks, I have dedicated time to carefully curating a synopsis of some highlights of the last 13 years; both personal and professional. This process has allowed me to revisit and reconsider many memories, reevaluating them to see how they have fit together in my development. Considering memories in both their historical context and as pieces of something grander has provided insight into the way I pursue life.
Interestingly, this effort reminded me of the process of creating my first post-law school resume with the career services advisors at Albany Law. They wanted me to fill a single page with an uninterrupted timeline consisting of buzzwords and catchphrases. This method seemingly blended my life into a piece of, mediocre, advertising copy meant to convince judicious hiring entities that I was the best candidate for their opening. While my resume had convinced me I had terrific experience for any job, it was really a laundry list of vague skills which could have been attributed to any law student with an interest in Patents. Several years of experience and interaction with other practitioners made me realize the value of sharing more than bullet point lists.
Phrases like ‘problem solver who synergizes well with creatives and engineers’ really miss the mark in conveying the mettle and character of the person on the resume in your hands. In actuality, it is the depth of one’s personality that renders meaningful his hours of researching, drafting, refining, learning, and perfecting.
